OUR MISSION
Connect. Change. Catalyse.
It is said that as medical students we enter our programme with a set of ideals. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, we traverse through our years of pre-clinical studies, towards clinical attachments, and then wonder where futures lie beyond.
Within the magnificent sights and sounds of Auckland City lies the birthplace of our nation’s finest future medical professionals - each of whom bear latent hopes of who they might become, musings of what they can do, and dreams of where this will take them. We all came into the degree for some strongly defined reason. Yet, as we navigate along our individual paths, there will be times where we all seek answers to ratify the cogency of our studies.
What are we studying towards? How will our futures unfold on our way to accomplishing those dreams?
Within this journey MOBILISE seeks to connect students with world leaders to bring change on global health issues and catalyse answers to these questions. Within one energetic weekend, we aim to morph medical students into individuals who can mobilise change on both the local and more importantly international level. We have invited individuals who have proven in one way or another an ability to spring from their niche and mobilise beginnings of change. We plan to ask these speakers one key question:
If you were to send one story to our nation’s future health professionals about a moment that changed you, what tale would you impart?
The Auckland University Students Association (AUMSA) is a body that acts to meet the needs of the medical student cohort at New Zealand’s world-ranked University. Dedicated towards crafting doctors with a broad social conscience, AUMSA has decided to bring back the event following the success of the inaugural conference in 2012. MOBILISE promises to extend beyond the success of the prior, by starting a new trend as AUMSA’s first GLOBAL HEALTH conference.
MOBILISE will present a comprehensive exploration of ‘health-care’ by investigating the wider determinants of health. The components that make up a ‘healthy life’ involves engagement with all fields within society and medicine. We will explore the need for surgery, internal medicine and emergency response, and also uncover exposure for community organisations and student interest groups. Our conference aims to catalyse the realization that a competent healthcare professional also works at the social level – playing a diverse role in influencing issues surrounding social rights, poverty, climate change and global health. Change and information goes beyond words. This is student empowerment.
This year, MOBILISE is here for YOU.
Yours Truly,
THE MOBILISE TEAM
